For safari and everyday travel

Bring breathable layers, a warmer layer for early mornings, comfortable footwear, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a small day bag. Keep travel documents, essential personal medication and valuables in your cabin bag. Check baggage limits with each airline, especially on domestic safari flights.

For a mountain trek

A mountain trip needs a dedicated equipment list. Expect warm and waterproof layers, suitable broken-in boots, gloves, a warm hat, a headlamp and appropriate daypack and sleeping equipment. Confirm what the crew supplies, what can be hired and what you must bring yourself.

For the coast

Pack swimwear, light clothing and footwear suitable for sand and town walks. Bring modest clothing for towns and villages, sun protection and a dry bag if you are planning boat trips. Confirm specialist equipment for diving or other activities with the operator.

Preparation goes beyond luggage

Review your itinerary’s altitude, remoteness and activities with a qualified travel-health professional. Physical fitness does not prevent altitude illness. Travel insurance needs to match the activities and any altitude limits of your trip.
