A starting point for your custom trip

Build the trek around preparation and acclimatization. The six mountain days below are separate from your arrival, briefing, hotel stays and onward travel.

Marangu hut-based route
Acclimatization day at Horombo
Route and equipment briefing
Summit attempt subject to wellbeing and conditions

Day by day

A sample route, refined with you.

Day 1

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Complete entry arrangements and walk through mountain forest to Mandara Hut.

Day 2

Mandara to Horombo Hut

Continue into more open mountain terrain, gaining altitude at a measured pace.

Day 3

Acclimatize at Horombo

Stay a second night at Horombo. Rest or take an appropriate acclimatization walk according to guide advice and your condition.

Day 4

Horombo to Kibo Hut

Cross high, exposed terrain toward Kibo. Rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 5

Summit attempt, then descend to Horombo

An early start toward Uhuru Peak if conditions and wellbeing allow. Descend via Kibo to Horombo the same day; this is a long and demanding day.

Day 6

Horombo to Marangu Gate

Complete the descent to the gate, then transfer to your post-trek accommodation.

Your proposal can include

  • Mountain guiding and support arrangements
  • Five hut nights and mountain meals
  • Park and relevant rescue fees
  • Trek transfers as quoted

Budget separately

  • Flights, visa and suitable travel insurance
  • Personal mountain equipment
  • Crew gratuities
  • Arrival and recovery hotels unless specified

Your final proposal will confirm the exact route, accommodation, inclusions, and terms before you book.

Six days is one possible route, not a summit guarantee. Ask about longer alternatives and allow additional arrival and recovery days. Fitness does not protect against altitude illness; seek qualified medical advice on preparation and review emergency arrangements.
